Looking for something just a little different that will set your Boulder, CO, home or office apart while maintaining a sense of elegance? Jacobsen Brothers Painting has three trendy techniques that add charm and interest to your rooms in a subtle manner.
1. Multi-Sheen Paint
For this technique, choose one hero color for the accent wall or for the whole room. Denim blue, garden green or steel gray are good choices, but any color will react well to this changing palette. When the light changes throughout the day, this room will change dramatically, but will still be attractive in each setting.
To add depth to your room, get this color in 3 different sheens: flat, gloss and satin. These different finishes will elevate areas of the room and add dimension. You could have the walls done in flat, the trim in satin and the doors in gloss. The added benefit of this technique is your high traffic areas, such as the doors, can be done in the finish that is the easiest for wipe-downs.
2. Tone on Tone
Retain interest in a space by using a tone on tone style. This technique uses the paint chip color strip that shows the different shades of the same color. Using the same tone throughout the room makes an interesting twist on monochromatic.
Here’s how to do it. Once you’ve chosen your color, pick out a dark, medium and light option of that shade on the color strip. The wall can be the light color. This sets the background for the more interesting attraction of your feature furniture pieces.
The biggest and most dramatic furniture piece, such as a buffet or headboard, should be painted the dark color. A complementary piece, such as a nightstand or end table, should be painted the medium color. You can choose several pieces to add to your medium tone ensemble. Finally, take it to another level with accent pillows that are even lighter than the walls.
3. Monochromatic to the Next Level
You’re probably familiar with the monochromatic concept. But what you may not have considered is carrying it from the walls to the furniture to create a designer look. The pro team at Jacobsen Brothers can add a chair rail molding to the wall to create a wainscoting effect, painting the molding and the lower section of the wall all one color.
Then, select a chair, bureau, sideboard, credenza or table that fits under the molding and have it painted the same color as the wall. When placed up against the wall, this interest piece blends in but also draws the eye. It also gives you a decorative surface to place complementary décor.
